ROARS

The ROARS group has recently updated their pages on this site.  A lot of dated material has been archived and their mission is now displayed prominently.  New information has been posted showing clearly how RO’s can contribute to and help the amateur radio fraternity, especially in times of national disaster or emergency.  It offers assistance to those RO’s who would like to use their CW skills again, with help in obtaining a license, setting up a small station in your home, and even antenna installation.  Well worth a visit!

About David Ellis

I was a sparks from 17-6-70 until 6-8-75. I managed to take in passenger/cargo, ferry, tankers, crude carriers, general cargo, and freezer ships. I worked for Marconi, IMRC, and CP Ships (fitted with Redifon stations). Quick resume: City of Port Elizabeth 17-6-70 to 6-1-71. Baharistan 29-1-71 to 15-2-71. Eucadia 17-2-71 to 22-2-71. Baharistan 23-2-71 to 31-7-71. New Zealand Star 4-10-71 to 31-10-72. Columbia Star 23-3-73 to 26-3-73. Jersey Queen 21-5-73 to 23-5-73. Harfleet 15-6-73 to 20-6-73. Naess Champion 28-6-73 to 2-1-74. Discoverer 27-10-74 to 20-11-74. J.V. Clyne 1-12-74 to 21-3-75. I.D. Sinclair 18-5-75 to 6-8-75. I circumnavigated on a single ship a couple of times, and visited lots of fascinating places. At the time I didn't realise it, but these were almost the best days of my life. If only I'd kept a diary! I've forgotten the names of so many shipmates, and details of the stations I worked. I can't even remember the Harfleet or the Eucadia! Now retired after a post-RO lifetime of electronics. Still a very active radio ham.
