77e have been contacted by a gentleman called Clive Ball requesting that we let members know about a book he has written based on letters between his father and mother in WW2. Clive’s father was Leonard Frederick Ball who was 1st R/O on Shazada that was torpedoed on 9th July 1944.

Told mainly in their own words, based on a cache of their letters I found when clearing Mum’s house, the story covers the period from the Depression to Dad’s loss in 1944. It recounts Dad’s early adventures on the ocean wave as a young R/O fresh out of Marconi’s Wireless College, through their courtship and marriage to the stresses and worries of WW2 and Dad’s heroic death. It’s an account of love, faith, fidelity and tragedy in the lives of one young couple among the millions whose happiness was destroyed by the War. 200 pages, 20 photos and 1 map.
