British School of Telegraphy

Information from Robin Powell.

I went to the British School of Telegraphy in September 1959 which was located on Romford Road, Forest Gate, London E7.

I was only there for one term as in January 1960 the College was moved lock stock and barrel to Penywern Road, Earls Court, London SW5.

The proprietor Mr Evans had taken over The London Telegraph Training College which was failing and moved his whole operation there absorbing the existing students.

I completed my 2nd class in July, did my 1st class the following term, joining AEI in December 1960.

I was at Penywern Road Earls Court in the 1950’s qualifying in 1956.
Thereafter I joined IMR and my first ship as 3rd R/O was Cunard RMS Saxonia on the Liverpool – Montreal/Quebec run
Prior to Penywern Road I was at The Wireless College in Upper Holloway North London, but left as the tuition and equipment was not up to the standard of that of Penywern Road

  2. Hey Robin. I did my tickets at LEC Penywern Road in the early seventies. MRGC and DOT Radar. Great place. David Evans had taken over from his father then.
